At the present time, we are recruiting healthy male tobacco smokers between 20-40 years of age to participate in our tobacco smoking study. We will be studying the effects of nicotine and tobacco smoking on brain function, dopamine and endogenous opioid brain chemical messengers in the brain. If you are interested in and qualify for participation in the study we would pay you $400 upon completion of a pre-exam and after the first day of PET scans. The compensation for the completion of the second day of PET scanning would be $400. There will be 2 PET sessions about 1 week apart. The study would take approximately 8-10 hours of your time (this includes the pre-exam and two PET scan dates). The pre-exam would be arranged at a time convenient for yourself and research staff and the need for you to arrive at 7:30 am on the morning of the PET scans. There are also two fMRI sessions which take about 60 minutes each. The compensation for each fMRI session would be between $75-$125 depending on your performance on a monetary reward task.
If you are interested in participating in the reserach study, please call 734-647-8238 for additional information.
