Wayne State University and Merrill Palmer Skillman Institute (www.mpsi.wayne.edu) is seeking a Research Scientist with a strong background in research methods, statistics and data analysis in the social sciences or health-related fields to join our Institute.
Merrill Palmer Skillman Institute is a historic research institute within Wayne State University in Detroit dedicated to developing a knowledge base in child and lifespan development. The institute sponsors a wide range of research projects focusing on development and resilience with a wide range of datasets, from longitudinal studies to random controlled trials testing psychosocial interventions.
Responsibilities:
• Develop analytic approaches and models
• Use statistical methods to help design random controlled trials
• Process and analyze large scale data sets
• Make detailed observations and interpret results.
• Work with doctoral students to train them in data analytic methods
• Prepare tables and graphs
Qualifications:
(1) Ph.D. preferred in psychology, public health, statistics, educational psychology, family studies, sociology or related fields.
(2) Strong quantitative, analytical skills and sophisticated grasp of theory underlying the choice of statistical tests
(3) Exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and communication skills
(4) Proficiency in well known statistical software packages
(5) Programming abilities desired; graphics skills
(6) Background in longitudinal methods, path models, HLM, growth curve
